JONESVILLE — After he reportedly hid in the attic and then fought with officers, Henry Louis Shavers was arrested.

Shavers, 42, 202 Duck Pond Road, failed to report to the CPSO office Nov. 2 to begin serving jail time after he pleaded guilty in August to charges aggravated assault with a firearm, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and attempted illegal carrying of weapons. He had managed to elude law enforcement since he failed to report to the jail.

According to a news release from the CPSO, Shavers attempted to hide in the attic when law enforcement officials from the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force-Western District arrived at his residence, and he allegedly fought with the officers as he exited the attic, ultimately having to be Tazed by the officers.

A woman and two children were escorted from the residence before officers entered it to remove Shavers, the release said.

Officers found 30 guns in the residence, as well as illegal narcotics, drug paraphernalia and $2,000 cash.

“I’m extremely grateful that no one was injured while serving these warrants and arresting Shavers,” Concordia Parish Sheriff Randy Maxwell said. “This subject had 30 guns in his residence; the outcome could have been completely different. I’m very appreciative as well for the full cooperation and assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service and the state agencies involved. Their assistance was invaluable.”

Following the arrest, new charges were filed against Shavers, including, possession schedule II drugs, possession of drug paraphernalia, 30 counts of convicted felon in possession of firearms, six counts resisting an officer, flight from an officer and carrying weapons while in possession of controlled dangerous substance drugs.

A $750,000 bond was set Wednesday for the new charges.

The original sentence Shavers failed to report to serve was for two concurrent 5-year hard labor sentences with the Louisiana Department of Corrections, two concurrent 6-month parish prison terms and one 2-year hard labor sentence without benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence to run concurrent with the others.

Louisiana Probation and Parole and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries also helped make the arrest.
