NEW ERA, La. — Services for Aubrey Lipsey, 79, of Monterey, who died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2010, at his residence, will be at 2 p.m. today at New Era Baptist Church with the Rev. Huey Tarpley, the Rev. Dennis Baker and Dr. Ralph Webber officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mr. Lipsey was born Aug. 17, 1930, in New Era, the son of Tillman Vanner Lipsey and Nina Hazel Boles Lipsey. He was a member of New Era Baptist Church and served as a deacon and song leader for a number of years. He was a farmer and was also employed by International Paper Company. Mr. Lipsey was currently employed by Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office.

He loved animals he raised, horses, cows and Catahoula Cur dogs.

He was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn King Lipsey; his parents; one daughter, Johnnie Lea Wilson; four brothers, Burlon “Joe” Lipsey, James Lipsey, Ivy Lipsey and Houma Lipsey; and two sisters, Thelma Tarver and Floy Delhoste.

Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Nasif and Phyllis Hall, both of Natchez, and Jeannie Mitchell and husband, Leo Jr., of Monterey; one son, Aubrey Todd Lipsey of Monterey; two sisters, Maxine Strebeck and Melba Thompson and husband, Lester, all of Monterey; one son-in-law, Ned Wilson of Monterey; eight grandchildren, Chessie Love Nasif, Naum Nasif, Raven Wilson, Kristen Ater Pate and husband, Adam, Austin Hall, Rie Mitchell, Clint Mitchell and Rebecca Mitchell; and one great-grandchild, Cain Lipsey.

Pallbearers will be Van Strebeck, Lane Dale, Jerry Lipsey, Lanny Lipsey, Gene Baker, Brad Lipsey and Chase Strebeck.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Moreland, Melvin Knapp, Brian Tiffee, Curtis Greene, J.D. Lipsey, Burton Boles, Milton Sanders, Gerald Delhoste and Lynn White.
