Wreck response was overwhelming

It’s been several weeks since the accident that injured our daughter and her friends, and my wife Sandy and I feel this is way overdue to those that helped everyone New Year’s night.

Major, major thanks to our law enforcement, firemen and emergency services. They were on the scene with lightning speed and precision. They took control of making sure everyone was taken care of. There is no doubt in our minds that they helped save lives that night. Please make sure that when you see these folks in our community that you honk your horn, shake their hand or even give them a hug, if they don’t mind, to let them know we care. I know we will.

Second, to all of the people of Natchez, our co-workers, friends, family and people we didn’t even know. The love that was shown to us from this wonderful town was overwhelming.

We received cards, letters, texts, e-mails, flowers, food and phone calls from a lot of caring people.

One of the gifts that made me say “wow” was when our daughter received  flowers from one of her friends serving in Iraq.

The prayer service put together by one of the neighboring schools, the T-shirts, wrist bands and various other fundraising efforts of the community shows the strength of this city.

Also, don’t forget about the fund at UMB bank that is set up so anyone can contribute. Please continue to support the fundraising efforts.

Third, but certainly not last, thank you to Mayor Jake Middleton, David Gardner and Sen. Bob Dearing. They were quick to act and help get things in motion to take care of the hump problem coming up with two solutions. One temporary and one permanent.

We truly believe putting up flashing lights is a great start and will help someone not be taken by surprise when approaching the hump.

Mr. Gardner is currently putting together the costs to level the area or bring it down to a safer height.

I know working with Sen. Dearing, Mayor Middleton and Mr. Gardner we will get it done.

We do not want anyone to ever receive a call like we did because of that hump.

Once again, our appreciation goes out to this city and please continue to keep everyone in your prayers.

We are truly blessed to live in Natchez.
