NEW ORLEANS — Services for Richard Dunbar Jr., 64, of New Orleans, who died Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Eagles Wings Baptist Church with the Rev. Quinton Barrow officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery under the direction of Littlejohn Funeral Home in New Orleans.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Dunbar was born Nov. 23, 1945, in Woodville, the son of Richard Dunbar Sr., and Susie James Dunbar. He was a resident of New Orleans for more than 59 years. He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Vietnam. He was employed by New Orleans Sewerage and Water Board as a pump attendant.
He served as umpire for the 9th Ward baseball and softball groups and was a football referee. He also was counselor for Louisiana Family Planning.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Lonnie Dunbar Sr.; and one sister, Oretha Dunbar.
Survivors include one daughter, Frances Sims; one son, Richard Sims; one grandchild, Rashaad Sims; four siblings, Andrew Dunbar, Angela Dunbar, Jean Dunbar Newman and Ellen Dunbar White; longtime companion, Carolyn Sims; three stepchildren, August, Kim and Terry Sims; and a number of other relatives and friends.
