VIDALIA — Four people were taken to local hospitals and traffic was backed up for more than an hour Wednesday following an accident at the foot of the eastbound U.S. 84 bridge.
A woman driving a Dodge Neon was pulling into U.S. 84 from its intersection with Louisiana 131 at the time of the accident, but pulled into a construction lane. The driver of a Toyota van braked to allow the driver into the traffic lane, according to Vidalia police.
When the Toyota driver braked, a Chevrolet Malibu following it rear-ended the van and pushed it into the Neon, police said.
The incident happened shortly before noon.
The accident involved six victims. The driver and the passenger of the Neon were transported to a local hospital by ambulance, and the driver and a passenger in the van were transported to the hospital by private means, police said.
The Malibu driver and passenger refused medical treatment.
All of the victims were in stable condition Wednesday afternoon, and did not have serious injuries.
