NATCHEZ — Kmart remained closed Friday as employees continued to repair damage reportedly caused by a Wednesday night electrical fire.

Kmart spokesperson Kim Freely said the store could reopen as early as this weekend.

A Kmart employee said Friday a restoration team is cleaning the checkout area, where the fire reportedly originated from a cash register.

The Natchez Fire Department received an emergency call at 11:43 p.m. Wednesday, according to its reports. Freely said investigators are still determining the exact cause.
