VIDALIA — Alert Mayor McCheese, the Hamburglar is back behind bars.
Vidalia police officers doing business checks stopped a burglary in progress Saturday, catching the suspect red(meat) handed.
An officer who noticed a car was parked in the street near the Sandbar Restaurant, got suspicious when he saw several boards had been kicked out of a nearby fence, Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said.
After noticing that a lock on the building had been broken, the officer called for backup. When officers arrived they entered the building, where they reportedly found Leonidas Dean Lowry, 30, 8681 U.S. 84 West, Ferriday, holding a steak, Hendricks said.
After searching the car parked in the street, officers reportedly found it had been loaded with ribeye steaks and hamburger meat, Hendricks said.
Lowry was arrested on charges of simple burglary, resisting an officer, simple criminal damage to property and a bench warrant for failure to appear in court.
He was detained without bond Monday.
