FERRIDAY — Services for Dorris D. Farmer Jr., 83, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. today at Sycamore Baptist Church.
Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home in Bude.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.
Mr. Farmer was born Sept. 10, 1926, in Gulfport, the son of Dorris David Farmer Sr. and Edna Cuevas Farmer.
Mr. Farmer served in the U.S. Military Naval Division and was the recipient of the Victory Ribbon, American Area Ribbon and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon (one star.)
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dorris D. Farmer III; and one brother, Holly Farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Nola Farmer; eight children, Joyce Dedeaux and Bobby Mercer, both of Gulfport, Janice White of Marietta, Ga., Betty Whitney of Natchez, Edna Mercer of Moss Point, Doris Ann King of Minden, La., Lynn Arnold of Gulf Breeze, Fla., and Angela Donaldson of Vidalia; six brothers, Bill Farmer of Highland, Texas, Earl Farmer, Alton Farmer and Malcolm Farmer, all of Gulfport, Dale Farmer of Florida and Gale Farmer of Slidell, La.; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
