BOGALUSA, La. (AP) — Former Bogalusa Mayor Louis Rawls has died at the age of 83.
Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home confirmed that Rawls died Monday at LTAC of Bogalusa, a long-term, acute-care hospital.
Rawls served as mayor for three terms, from 1970 to 1978 and again from 1982 to 1986. Rawls was the second mayor to work ‘‘full-time’’ at the position, which changed from part time with Bogalusa’s 1977 home rule charter.
A life long native of Bogalusa, Rawls served in the U.S. Army in WWII and later worked as a postal carrier and a funeral director at Poole-Ritchie.
