NATCHEZ — If you want to save lives and help your community, or if you just want to learn how to tie a good knot, now is the time.
Foster Mound Volunteer Fire Department will host a 12-hour basic firefighting course that starts at 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday next week.
“We will be doing a basic firefighter refresher course,” Adams County Fire Coordinator Stan Owens said. “There is absolutely no cost, and Adams County really needs some more volunteer firefighters. It is a great way to help your community.”
Owens said there is no need to sign up ahead of time, just show up Monday at 6 p.m. While the class has a cap of 25, he said they would make room for any additional people.
The class will also offer four emergency medical technician hours.
“You will learn about personal protection, tying knots, raising ladders and will discuss rescue,” Owens said. “It is a very interesting class.
“It is for people who are just curious too, if you want to try and understand firefighters and have some fun,” he said.
Byran Cunningham, assistant instructor with the Mississippi State Fire Academy, will be on hand to teach the class at Foster Mound VFD, located at 228 Foster Mound Road near Pine Ridge.
