NATCHEZ — Services for Birtie Steele Brown, 92, of Natchez, who died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, at her residence, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Tim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mrs. Brown was born June 23, 1917, in Amite County, the daughter of Barney Steele and Velia Freeman Steele. She was a member of Salem Primitive Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, L.W. “Buck” Brown; one brother, Lloyd Steele and one sister, Wonzie Jackson.

Survivors include one daughter, Carolyn McCallister and husband Doug of Natchez; one son, Alton L. Brown and wife Lexie of Madison; five grandchildren, Kelli McKnight, Britton Howell, Wendi Hooge, Wilson Brown and Adam Brown; four brothers, Lucien Steele of Meadville, Clem Steele of Walker, La., Raybon Steele of Summit and Adrian Steele of Tylertown; two sisters, Ada Lee Huff of Brookhaven and Audrey Bass of Baker, La. and six great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Don Bass, Burkes Brown, Irby Campbell, Adam Brown, Wilson Brown and Bruce Laird.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
