TALLULAH, La. — Services for Althea Jones Allen, 76, of Tallulah, will be today at First Baptist Church of Tallulah with the Rev. John Rushing officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park of Tallulah under the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah.

Mrs. Allen was born July 7, 1933, in Waverly, La., the daughter of Claude and Vera Williams. She was a lifelong resident of Madison Parish.

Mrs. Allen was a charter member of Parkview Baptist Church in Tallulah. She was retired from the restaurant business after a number years of devotion to the people of Tallulah who simply knew her as “Jonesey.” She was a devoted mother of six and Maw Maw to six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and an untold number of other children who adopted Maw Maw as their very own. Mrs. Allen also spent a great deal of time caring for her roses and various other flowers which was a passion shared with her mother and daughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Joseph Louis Jones and Roy Lee Allen; four daughters, Louise Glass and husband, George, of Tallulah, Mary Ann Vining and husband, Odell, of Ridgecrest, Alice Carson and husband, Steve, of Sulphur, La., and Edith Mitchell of Madison; two sons, James E. Jones of Delta, La., and Billy Ray Jones and wife, Waynette, of Decatur, Texas; one brother, Robert Walker and wife, Catherine, of Calhoun, La.; one sister, Annie Williams of Delhi, La.; 10 grandchildren, Sharon Maxwell Hipp, Dr. Odell Vining Jr., Carmen Yvonne Rudd, Bradley Keith Smith, Louis Todd Glass, Louis Scott Vining, April Lynn Jones, Kristen Marie Mitchell, Kelly Anne Mitchell and Jordyn Leann Jones; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harold Bolton, Don Butler, Patrick Cobb, Joe Jobe, Clint Johnson and Bubba Panquin.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. L.P. “Pops” Newmann and her grandchildren.
