NATCHEZ — The Adams County Correctional Center went on lockdown for three days after 16 inmates got into a fight last week.

Warden Vance Laughlin said guards immediately broke up the fight. One prisoner was injured and there was never any danger to ACCC workers or anyone outside the facility, Laughlin said.

Guards commanded the inmates to stop fighting rather than use force.

“I would like people to view this as a demonstration of control, rather than any type of loss of control,” Laughlin said. “I’m proud of the staff and the way they reacted to it.”

The facilities were on lockdown so ACCC could interview inmates and perform searches, Laughlin said.

“We were making sure there were not going to be any further safety risks for staff or inmates,” he said.

While the prison was on lockdown, inmates were restricted to their quarters and could only move around the facility with an escort.

The prison returned to normal operations Tuesday.
