NATCHEZ — Services for Garland W. “Goober” Grantham, 63, of Natchez, who died Monday, March 15, 2010, at Promise Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Laird Funeral Home Union Street Chapel with the Rev. Curt Wilson officiating.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Mr. Grantham was born Nov. 7, 1946, in Leesville, La., the son of George A. Grantham Jr. and Ethel Spurgeon Grantham. He was employed for 30 years as a floor hand for an oil field company. He was also a member of Cranfield Baptist Church.

Mr. Grantham was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Ray “Buck” Stephens.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Grantham; three sons, Richard Grantham and wife, Mary, Rodney Grantham and wife, Tina, and Melvin Grantham and wife, Rachel, all of Natchez; two daughters, Jeanette Day and husband, Robert, of Natchez and Marie Holloway and husband, Gerald, of New Port, Tenn.; 11 grandchildren, Alan and Meagin Grantham, Eric, Ashley, Taylor Grantham, Aaron, Corvan, Jarrett Day, J.J., Ben Corley and Kimberly Grantham; one brother, Frank Grantham of Ridgecrest; and three sisters, Clara Cater and Marjorie Stephens, both of Natchez, and Mildred Maher and husband, Junior, of Hazlehurst.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Grace, Aaron Day, Corvan Day, Joseph “J.J.” Corley Jr., Alan Grantham and Eric Grantham.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jock Grantham, Ben Corley, Jarrett Day, Chris Stephens and Jimmy Stephens.
