FERRIDAY — The Ferriday sales tax was renewed Saturday.

According to unofficial results on the Louisiana secretary of state Web site, Ferriday said “yes” to 10 more years of a .75-percent sales tax.

The sales tax generates approximately $400,000 for the Town of Ferriday and is used for general funding. It first passed in 2000.

Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin said he breathed a big sigh of relief when he saw the unofficial results.

“I knew I would have had to make a bunch of cuts if it had lost — people would have lost their jobs, and they need their jobs right now,” he said. “I’d just like to thank the people that voted for it.”

Polls closed at 8 p.m. Results will become official once the secretary of state’s office verifies them.
