NEW ERA — Funeral services for Ruth Greene Evans, 82, of New Era, who died peacefully, surrounded by her family and loved ones on Saturday, April 3, 2010, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at New Era Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Baker and the Rev. Lloyd Trisler officiating.
Burial will follow at the New Era Baptist Church Cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. today and until time of services Tuesday at New Era Baptist Church.
Mrs. Evans was born March 17, 1928, to Joe and Roberta Bordelon. She was a life-long resident of New Era and a member of New Era Baptist Church. She was a florist, homemaker, loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was married to Emmitt Greene — a prominent farmer, businessman and civic leader of Concordia Parish — for 32 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, Joe Bordelon III; one sister, Allene Watson, and one nephew, William Bordelon.
Survivors include one son, Dwayne Greene of Monterey; three daughters, Janice Strong and husband Omer, Maelene Nichols and husband Eddie and Denise Parker and husband Calvin, all of Jonesville; seven grandchildren, Jody Greene, Tonya McCaughey, Meghan Miller, Drew Nichols, Lacey Book, Lance Thompson and Katelin Thompson, and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jody Greene, Shane McCaughey, Jesse McCaughey, Drew Nichols, Lance Thompson, Racky Book and Durk Brown.
