NATCHEZ — A Natchez woman allegedly shot her husband twice at approximately 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
Adams County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a shots fired call on Rand Road and found James A. Smith, who was shot in the right hand and in the ribs, Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said.
“This incident stems from an ongoing domestic problem,” Mayfield said. “The relatives we have talked to say they have been feuding recently.”
Witnesses said Smith fired the .38 revolver at her husband 11 times, Mayfield said.
After the incident, Cheryl C. Smith allegedly fled the scene in a gold F150.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol shortly stopped her at a routine license check on Martin Luther King Jr. Road, Mayfield said. The sheriff said the highway patrol detained Smith until deputies arrived.
Smith, 43, 313 Southmoor Drive, was arrested on charges of aggravated assault. Smith’s bond has been set at $50,000.
James Smith was transported to Natchez Community Hospital and airlifted to Jackson, where he is reportedly in stable but in critical condition, Mayfield said.
