MONTEREY — Services for Leo Moreland, 72, of Monterey, who died Monday, April 26, 2010, at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at New Era Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Baker, Dr. Ralph Webber, the Rev. Jim Thomasee and the Rev. Huey Tarpley officiating.

Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the church.

Mr. Moreland was born July 6, 1937, in Parhams, La., the son of Clyde J. Moreland and Helen Burley Moreland. He was a lifelong resident of Monterey. He was a farmer and an active member of New Era Baptist Church. Mr. Moreland served as chairman of the deacons for a number of years. He was very active in his community, always helping others in any way he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Evalena Moreland; one daughter, Meredith Moreland; one brother, L. Rogers Moreland, all of Monterey; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Van Strebeck, Jason Tiffee, Stephen Moreland, David Moreland, Kenneth Moreland, Jonathan Moreland, Steven Hartman and John Franklin Emory.

Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of New Era Baptist Church, Gene Baker, Brain Tiffee, Lynn White, Milton Sanders, Gerald Delhoste and Curtis Green.

In lieu of flowers, donations may made to New Era Baptist Church.
