NATCHEZ — Services for James O. “Slick” Garner, 82, of Natchez, who died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Promise Hospital, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Doug Broom and the Rev. Dan Wynn officiating.
Burial and graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Monday at Lakewood Cemetery in Clinton under the direction of Laird Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Mr. Garner was born Jan. 4, 1928, in McComb, the son of Roscoe Bennett and Alice Virginia Jones Garner.
Slick was a U.S. Army veteran of Korea and a member of the American Legion. He was also a Mason and Shriner. He was retired from Mississippi Power and Light Company after 38 years of service. He was an avid deer hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Yvonne Garner; six brothers and one sister.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Garner; one son, Gary Garner and wife, Mechelle, of Madison; one daughter, Gail West of Clinton; four stepchildren, Jamie Flanner and Greg Binns and wife, Terri, all of Madison, Chuck Binns and wife, Paula, of Natchez, and Michael Binns and wife, Terri, of Cordova, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Blayne, Bryce, Ashley, Brent and John Tait; two great-grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Brian, Chris, Amy, Preston and Larson.
Pallbearers will be Brent Garner, Bryce Slocumb, Thad Weisenberger, Brian Flanner, Preston Binns and Chuck Binns.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the John Leckie Sunday School Class and members of Masonic Order and Shriners.
In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Shriner’s Children Hospital in Shreveport, La.
