ROXIE — Services for Robert James “Teddy” Torrey Jr., 67, of Roxie, who died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Springhill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Luther Bonds officiating.

Burial will follow at Roxie Cemetery under the direction of Robert D. Mackel and Sons Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church.

Mr. Torrey was born Feb. 13, 1943, in Franklin County, the son of Robert James Torrey Sr. and Clara Jones Torrey. He was a member of Roxie First Baptist Church. After serving in the U.S. Army, he relocated to Kankakee, Ill. There he worked for several large factories and was a union certified master plumber, electrician and carpenter.

Upon returning to Mississippi, he worked a variety of union jobs at Chevron, Grand Gulf, BP, etc. He retired from Susie B. West Apartment Complex as maintenance supervisor in 2003.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Alex and Willie Roy Torrey; and one sister, Helen Torrey.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Doris J. Torrey; one son, Theodore Torrey of Kankakee; three stepsons, Byron Webster and wife, Kimberly, of El Paso, Texas, Steven James of Kankakee and Jeff James of Chicago Heights; two stepdaughters, Shelia James of Minnesota and Roberta James of Kankakee; one brother, Chester Davis and wife, Dorothy, of Natchez; one sister, Iva Jackson of Mesquite, Texas; six brothers-in-law, Jesse James of Florida, Will James and wife, Catherine, Jerry James and Melvin James, all of Kankakee, Randolph Webster and wife, Joanne, of Newton, and Kenny “Shug” Webster Sr. and wife, Isabelle, of Roxie; seven sisters-in-law, Deborah Brent of Minnesota, Lois Davis, Ella James and Evelyn James, all of Kankakee, Neely Jackson of Vicksburg, Emma Slate of Roxie and May Lee Moore and husband, Thomas, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a large number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
