VIDALIA — A Vidalia woman was arrested Saturday after allegedly stabbing another person.

Police initially responded to a disturbance on South Spruce Street at 11 a.m. Saturday, where they were met in the street by Katrina Yearby, 36, who told them she had been stabbed, Police Chief Ronnie G. “Tapper” Hendricks said.

Following the incident, Latoya Smith, 22, 301 S. Spruce St., was arrested on charges of aggravated second-degree battery.

The victim was stabbed in both legs. She was taken to a local hospital, treated and released.

No motive has been established in the stabbing, Hendricks said.

“One statement said the suspect approached the victim wanting to fight for reasons she did not know,” he said.

Smith was released on a $25,000 bond Monday.
