NATCHEZ — A Natchez man reportedly shot his girlfriend and then later himself at a different residence.
Ernest Clark, 40, allegedly shot himself in the head with a .380 automatic pistol at approximately 11:40 p.m. Wednesday at his mother’s apartment on Lumber Street, Natchez Police Department Capt. Craig Godbold said.
Godbold said the responding officers learned from a witness on the scene that Clark reportedly shot his girlfriend. Officers located Candice Johnson, 26, who had been shot once in the head, at Clark’s residence, 1166 Martin Luther King St.
“It appears that he shot her and went to his mother’s apartment, where it appears he shot himself,” Godbold said. “They had been together for about a month and may have broken up this past week.”
Godbold said there did not appear to be any signs of a struggle at either residence. Officers recovered the handgun.
