FERRIDAY — Services for Vera Nell Roark Smith, 75, of Ferriday, who died Friday, May 21, 2010, will be 10 a.m. Monday at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Steele and the Rev. Walter Mallard officiating.
Burial will follow at Wilbanks Cemetery in Antioch, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home.
Mrs. Smith was born Aug. 16, 1934, the daughter of Roy L. Roark and Viva Roark. Mawmaw, as she was affectionately called by many, is with the Lord, whom she loved and served with all her heart. She was a Christian example to her family and all who knew her. We love her dearly, and will miss the great times we had together! Truly, Heaven is richer and our goal is to meet her again one day.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; one sister-in-law, Beth Prisock and one grandson, Richard McAllister.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Lawrence “L.E.” Smith; one son, Rodney Smith and wife, Gail, of Ferriday; one daughter, Debbie McAllister and husband, Elbert, of Ferriday; one sister, Bettye Smith and husband, Meredith, of Ferriday; two brothers, Dale Roark and wife, Karen, of North Carolina, and Dwain and wife, Terrie, of Jacksonville, Ark.; two granddaughters, Tamie McGowen and husband, Rodney and Rebekah Smith, all of Ferriday; two grandsons, Kevin McAllister of Ferriday and Darren McAllister and fiancée Beth Dodge, all of Ferriday; one sister-in-law, Esther Day and husband, Eddie, of Nashville; one brother-in-law, Lamar Prisock of Monroe; one great-grandson and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.
Pallbearers will be Rodney McGowen, Curtis Smith, Jimmy McAllister, Robert McAllister, Buddy Rouse, Steve Mallard and Lamar Prisock.
