NATCHEZ — The Adams County Farm Service Agency wants nominations for the position on the county committee that will come open this fall.

“Every year we have an election to elect a new county committeeman, and every year the elections are staggered so that one committeeman is elected,” Adams County FSA Director Stacy McKay said.

Nominations for the committee come from local agriculture producers and those representing socially disadvantaged producers.

Committee members serve a three-year term, with the term for the open position starting in January 2011.

“The committee members inform farmers and ranchers of the purposes and provisions of the FSA programs,” McKay said. “They keep the state committee informed of the local administrative area conditions, they participate in monthly county committee meetings, and they carry out any other duties and responsibilities assigned by the state committee.”

The FSA is actively seeking minority and women candidates, McKay said.

Nomination forms are available at the local FSA office, located at 110 Northgate Road in Natchez.

The county committee has three members, Chairman Noble Guedon, Vice-chair Mary Ditzler and Jackie Sojourner. The committee also had an advisor, Joe Merrick.

The county committee makes a recommendation for advisor to the state FSA committee, and the state committee approves the appointment.

The position open for nominations is administrative area No. 3, the area currently represented by Ditzler.

Nomination forms, fact sheets and over information are also available online at www.fsa.usda.gov.
