VIDALIA — Services for Betty Stansell Thornhill, 78, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Promise Hospital, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at First Baptist Church of Vidalia.

Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time today at the church.

Mrs. Thornhill was born March 19, 1932, in Gallon, La., the daughter of Jesse Melvin Stansell and Eula Mae Brunson Stansell. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, an avid gardener and floral designer.

Mrs. Thornhill was a member of First Baptist Church and Faith Sunday School Class in Vidalia. She was also a member of the Vidalia Garden Club and especially enjoyed her Tuesday morning Bible study group.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Delane Thornhill; one brother, Jesse Calvin Stansell of Pasadena, Texas; and one sister, Rosa Lee Mitchell of Bossier City, La.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Biglane and husband, Pat, and Judy Germany, all of Vidalia, and Paula Edwards and husband, Duke, of Natchez; five grandchildren, Joanna Biglane McNeel and husband, Jason, of Ridgeland, Patrick Biglane and wife, Melinda, of Starkville, Caroline Edwards of Brandon, Preston Edwards of Natchez, and Lee Germany and wife, Lauren; one great-granddaughter, Analise Germany, all of Horn Lake; three sisters, Yvonne Woodruff, Linda Stansell and Doris Gill and husband, Everett, all of Alexandria, La.; four brothers, Charlie Stansell and wife, Marsha, of Bellevue, Wash., Joseph Stansell and wife, Carolyn, of Pineville, La., and Michael Stansell and wife, Helen, of Greenwell Springs, La., and Jerry Stansell and wife, Peggy, of Byram; one cousin, Larry Smith and wife, Virginia, of Vidalia; two sisters-in-law, Martha Jones and husband, Gene, of McComb and Paula Phipps and husband, Archie, of Hernando; and a number of nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Pallbearers will be Pat Biglane, Duke Edwards, Patrick Biglane, Lee Germany, Preston Edwards and Jason McNeel.
