JONESVILLE — The Winnsboro Nationals snatched victory from the jaws of defeat as they rallied for a 5-4 win over the Concordia Parish Machine Pitch 8-year-old All-Stars Friday night in the championship game of the sub-district tournament.
“We were up 4-3 in the fourth inning. We thought time was up, but it really wasn’t. We were celebrating like we had won,” head coach Jeannie Beach said.
After Concordia Parish was unable to score any runs in the top of the fifth inning, Winnsboro scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth to take first place and automatically advance to the state tournament, which begins next Thursday in Minden, La.
Concordia Parish finished in second place and will take on a yet-to-be-determined opponent, which is supposed to be the third-place team from the sub-district tournament, in a doubleheader today.
The first game starts at noon and the second game begins at 3 p.m. with a berth in the state tournament on the line.
