FERRIDAY — Services for Earl Stanley Smith Sr., 84, of Ferriday, who died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. today at Young’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Clyde Ray Webber officiating.

Burial will follow at Woodlawn Mausoleum under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time today at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born May 29, 1926, in Sterlington, La., the son of Henry Herbert Smith and Zettle Amanda Staples Smith. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe.

Mr. Smith retired after more than 30 years as a conductor for the railroad. He was a people person who loved to tell jokes for as long as anyone would listen. His passions in life were hunting, fishing and whittling (wood carving.)

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry Smith Jr., Leonard Smith and George Smith; and one sister, Janice Post.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Jimmie Smith; two sons, Earl “Stan” Smith Jr. of Natchez and Ricky Smith and wife, Shaune, of Lacombe, La.; three grandsons, Joshua Smith, Ross Smith and Brandon Thompson, all of Natchez; and one sister-in-law, Mildred Smith of Shreveport, La.

Pallbearers will be Josh Smith, Ross Smith, Brandon Thompson, Brett Hinson, Claude Faulkenberry, Denny Hinson, Matt Hinson and Pat Hinson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cole Rutherford, Dr. Huey Moak, Lynn Smith and Scott Smith.
