NATCHEZ — The Natchez Fire Department cut into a truck with the Jaws of Life to pull a Natchez woman out following a wreck at approximately noon Monday.
Phillip Knoll, whose ditch LaRita Daniels’ truck ended up in, was the first to respond and called 911.
“She had a gash on her arm, but she was still able to talk,” Knoll said. “The first thing she said was, ‘Can I use your phone to call my husband?’”
Amy O’Bryant said her mother, Daniels, was driving to her Palestine Road home from Natchez Market No. 2 when she encountered a truck hauling a trailer that was allegedly on Daniels’ side of the road.
O’Bryant said Daniels swerved to miss the truck, lost control and ended up in Knoll’s ditch on Palestine Road. The truck Daniels swerved to miss left the scene of the accident, O’Bryant said.
Daniels, who was less than a quarter of a mile from home, was transported to Natchez Regional Medical Center.
The Adams County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and was unable to release an official report until today, when the office staff would be back in from the holiday weekend.
