Ruby Washington

NATCHEZ — Services for Ruby W. Washington, 74, of Vidalia, who died Thursday, July 1, 2010, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. John E. O’Halliaran officiating.

Burial will follow at Pine Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Bateaste Memorial Funeral Home.

Mrs. Washington was born Nov. 25, 1935, in Ferriday, the daughter of Thomas and Charity Jordan Williams. Mrs. Washington was the recipient of a bachelor of science degree, a master of science degree and had earned 30 hours above her master’s degree. She was employed by Concordia Parish schools as a teacher. She was retired.

Mrs. Washington was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and served as Lector and Eucharistic minister. She enjoyed cooking, collecting cookbooks and glassware.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Everett Washington; four brothers, Tom Williams, Mel Jordan, Adell Jordan and James Jordan; and one sister, Beatrice W. McDuffy.

Survivors include two children, Raphael D. Washington and Gwenetta Y. Washington, both of Vidalia; one grandchild, Everett D. K. Washington of Vidalia; one sister, Dora W. Combest of Natchitoches, La.; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
