MEADVILLE — A Natchez man reportedly drowned in Clear Springs lake Monday afternoon.
Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said the sheriff’s office is still investigating the alleged drowning, but it appears to be an accident.
At approximately 3:30 p.m. dispatchers received the call that there was a possible drowning.
Local authorities responded and called in divers from the Pike County Civil Defense Department.
By 6 p.m., the divers were on scene and at 6:13 p.m. Franklin County Coroner Percy Peeler pronounced Timothy A. Malone, 31, dead.
Peeler said a woman was with Malone, and she called 911. Peeler said Malone went underwater at approximately 3 p.m., and the woman tried to help him.
Malone was swimming in the roped off portion of Clear Springs Lake.
