NATCHEZ — Services for Dave York Sr., who died Monday, July 19, 2010, at Natchez Community Hospital, will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ.
Burial will follow under the directions of George F. West Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the church.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Elder York was born April 15, 1934, in Natchez, the son of Louella Cooper and Dave York.
He worked at Diamond International Company and the Natchez-Adams School District. He was retired. In January of 1952, Elder York was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Greene. To this union seven children were born. He accepted Christ as his Savior and received the holy ghost at Perrault Street Church of God in Christ (Murray’s Temple) under the leadership of Elder Jacob and James Murray where he served faithfully. He later moved his membership to Prayer Tower Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder Frank O. Smith where he later served as assistant pastor. He became an ordained elder and was pastor of Prayer Tower, where he served faithfully until his illness.
Elder York was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Jessie Lee Reed, Adeline Green and Georgia Mae; one brother, Tommy York; his wife, Dorothy York; and one daughter, Glenda York.
Survivors include one brother, Ben York and wife, Velma, of Fort Wayne, Ind.; one son, Dave York and wife, Rose; five daughters, Vera Dunmore and husband, Ronald, of Natchez, Verna Armstrond and husband, Larry, of Jackson, Shirley Robinson and husband, Clay, of Jonesboro, Ga., Sheila Wilson and husband, Stanley, of Montgomery, Ala., and Patricia Tillman and husband, Gregory, of Natchez; and a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
