WOODVILLE — Services for Kent Denis Hewes, who died Wednesday, July 21, 2010, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Woodville Baptist Church with the Rev. Rob Muncy officiating.
Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville under the direction of Newman Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Hewes was born Aug. 26, 1927, in Cornor, La., in West Feliciana Parish. Other than his time in the service of his country and his time in college, he would spend his entire life on the farm that he loved so much.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II, was a retired supervisor with Crown Zellerbach and was a retired cattleman and farmer.
Mr. Hewes was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Billie Sinclair Hewes; his parents, Dr. C.G. and Elizabeth Hewes; two brothers, Cecil G. Hewes Jr. and John C. Hewes; two sisters, Elizabeth H. Percy and Rose H. Smither; and two nieces, Nan Percy and Margaret Hewes.
Survivors include one son, Jeffery Hewes and devoted daughter-in-law, Brenda; one daughter, Kay Sullivan and husband, Jack; one sister, Mary H. Leak; four grandchildren, Brandon McGregor and wife, Jamie, Kacy H. Forbes and husband, Bradley, Michelle H. Freeman and husband, Brandon, and Kathryn Winstead and husband, Justin; seven great-grandchildren, Lane McGregor, Brayden McGregor, Ella McGregor, Kaitlyn Forbes, Madelynn Freeman, Tucker Freeman and Jessie Winstead; eight nephews and six nieces.
Pallbearers will be Donnie Cupit, Collins Hewes, Carter Leak, James Leak, Grayson Lewis, Dickie Smither, Lance Walker and John Whitaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Abel, Sonny Clark, Dr. David McGraw, Dr. Jennings Owens, Walter Scott, W.D. Spillman, George Wells and Richard Whitaker Jr.
