D’IBERVILLE — Sloppy fielding proved costly for the T.M. Jennings 11- and 12-year-old All-Stars Friday night in game one of the Little League state tournament.

In a best-of-three series against Ocean Springs, the 11s and 12s allowed a handful of errors in the first inning to put them down 6-0 after the top of the frame.

Natchez allowed five more runs in the fourth inning en route to an 11-0 shutout, and head coach Deselle Davis said his team would have to improve its fielding for game two.

“Our problem was errors. They didn’t get a lot of hits, but I’m not making excuses. They beat us,” Davis said.

“They played well. We made more errors tonight than I’ve ever seen us make. We just have to play harder, but I’m not worried. We’ll be alright.”

Natchez starter Daryl Hurst took the loss Friday.

The 11s and 12s will play in the second game against Ocean Springs today at 9 a.m.
