WILDSVILLE, La. — Services for Johnny W. Bryan, 92, of Wildsville, La., who died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at Riverland Medical Center in Ferriday, will be at 10 a.m. today at Evangeline Baptist Church with the Rev. Dennis Baker and the Rev. Ken Gilmore officiating.
Burial will follow at the church cemetery under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Mr. Bryan was born Feb. 23, 1918, in New Era, La., the son of Willie Bryan and Josephine Bryan.
Mr. Bryan was a member of Evangeline Baptist Church. He also served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mable Jones Bryan; one daughter, Johnnie Ruth Sturgeon of Vidalia; one son-in-law, John M. Sturgeon of Vidalia; two grandsons, Dr. John Sturgeon III of Fort Worth, Texas and James Ira Sturgeon of Monterey; three great-grandsons, John Sturgeon IV and Thomas Bryan Sturgeon, both of Fort Worth, and Samuel Sturgeon of Monterey; two sisters, Alice Emrick of Wildsville and Lorraine Austin of Lettsworth, La.; one brother, Jack Bryan of Baker, La.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be James Ira Sturgeon, Dr. John Sturgeon III, Andrew J. Bryan, Jacob Lensing, Bryan Lensing, Ronnie Bruit, Gary Duck and Jimmy Wade.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rusty Bruit and the deacons of Evangeline Baptist Church.
