Weather causes havoc with Trinity softball schedule

NATCHEZ — Trinity softball coach Chris Hutchins is getting a little fed up with the weather.

On Thursday, the Lady Saints had to cancel their game against Central Private because of rain. And on Friday, Trinity’s game against Riverfield was cancelled for the same reason.

“We hope to play on Monday against Brookhaven Academy,” said a frustrated Hutchins.

“It’s a pain, because you schedule every available day you have, and when you have a rainout, you just about can’t get it rescheduled.”

To make matters worse, the two rainouts were against non-division opponents, which lessens the chance of a makeup game even more.

“The conference games we’d work really hard to reschedule, but we don’t start playing those for a couple of weeks,” Hutchins said.

The rain has also been affecting practices for the Lady Saints, which makes things even tougher for his players, Hutchins said.

“We would certainly rather be playing and practicing as often as possible. With any sport, taking several days off gets people rusty, and with the rain, we can’t practice or play to any measurable degree,” Hutchins said.

“We try to squeeze in a practice whenever possible. With the busy schedules that all the girls have though, unless you pre-plan it, it’s very difficult to get the full squad together for a meaningful practice.”

The varsity team is scheduled to play Brookhaven Academy Monday at 5 p.m., followed by the junior varsity team at 6:30.
