LIBERTY — The Centreville Academy Lady Tigers did quite well Saturday at the Amite School Center Tournament before heavy rain that evening forced the rest of the tournament to be canceled.
Centreville shut out three of its opponents thanks to some outstanding pitching from Ariana Bigner and Haley Mann as well as timely hitting. In its first game of the day, Centreville rolled to a 7-0 win over the Copiah Academy Lady Colonels.
However, the Lady Tigers ran into MAIS District 5-AA rival Silliman Institute and the Lady Wildcats took a 4-1 win to drop Centreville into the losers’ bracket.
Centreville got back to playing the way it did against Copiah by defeating the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars 10-0 and the Heidelberg Academy Lady Rebels 5-0.
Bigner was the winning pitcher in the Lady Tigers’ victories over Copiah Academy and Heidelberg Academy and was the losing pitcher in their loss to Silliman. Mann was the winning pitcher in their win over Columbia Academy.
“Then we were about to play Franklin Academy in the quarterfinals and the flash flood hit. And when I mean flash flood, I mean flash flood,” Centreville head coach Mark Mann said.
Centreville improved to 9-3 overall on the season and will return to district play today when it plays at Central Private. The varsity game starts at 4 p.m. and will be followed by the junior varsity game at approximately 5:45 p.m.
