SICILY ISLAND — Services for William Gaines Jr., 75, of Foules, La., who died Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010, at Rapides General Medical Center in Alexandria, La., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Martin Junior High School in Sicily Island with the Rev. Henry Evans officiating.

Burial will follow at the Ferriday Cemetery under the direction of Concordia Funeral Home in Ferriday.

Mr. Gaines was born Sept. 4, 1934, in Ferriday, the son of William and Beatrice Joffrion Gaines. He was a retired clerk for the Steam Ship Association Company of New Orleans.

Survivors include his wife, Vivian Long Gaines; two sons, Weldon Gaines of Lafayette, La., and Glen Allen Gaines and wife, Willie Mae, of New Orleans; nine daughters, Gwendolyn Gaines of Texas City, Texas, Lorraine Gaines of Memphis, Tenn., Angie Rasheed and husband, Tariq, of Lafayette, Carolyn Wallace of Jackson, Lynn Cooper Gaines of Houston, Lori Cooper Gaines of Frisco, Texas, Tashia LaGabe and husband, Glen, of Arlington, Texas, Jennifer Gaines and husband, Earl, of Atlanta and Toni Thomas of Foules; three brothers, John Gaines and wife, Erma, of Lafayette, Ulysses Gaines of White Castle, La., and Terry L. Gaines of New Orleans; three sisters, Joycelyn Coleman of Houston, Janet Johnson and husband, Stafford, and Debra Fulton, all of New Orleans; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives; one aunt, Mable Smith of Ferriday; one stepdaughter, Janice Cooper of Dallas; and one stepson, Reginald Cooper of New Orleans.
