NATCHEZ — Two people were arrested by the Natchez Police Department in a grab and run robbery in downtown Natchez.

NPD Police Chief Mike Mullins said Willie Duck, 32, of Jefferson County and Arveanious Smith, 28, 200 B Dumas Drive, were both arrested and charged with one court of robbery each in connection with an incident that occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Both suspects and the victim were at a bar in the 300 block of Main Street when the incident occurred, Mullins said.

Mullins said one of the suspects asked to borrow the victim’s cell phone. When the victim handed the suspect the cell phone, the suspect ran off with the phone.

The victim chased the suspect until the second suspect hit the victim in the head and took his wallet and a small amount of money.

NPD officers located the two suspects shortly after the incident. Duck and Smith are both being detained without bond until arraignment.

Duck was arrested in September 2009 on charges of accessory after the fact to rape, accessory after the fact to murder and accessory after the fact to arson in connection with the murder of Terry Lynn Farmer.

He has since been released under nolle prosequi, or dismissed without prejudice.
