FAYETTE — Services for Murdock Taylor Jr., 83, of Fayette, who died Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at Claiborne County Senior Care Center, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fayette United Methodist Church with the Rev. Aaron Lamb officiating.
Burial will follow at Fayette City Cemetery under the direction of Spencer Funeral Home in Fayette.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church.
Mr. Taylor was born June 3, 1927, in Fayette, the son of Murdock Taylor Sr. and Ruby Clawson Taylor. He was a 1944 graduate of Fayette High School and a 1949 graduate of Mississippi State College with a degree in agriculture. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II and served during the Korean Conflict as a sergeant. He was elected tax assessor/collector of Jefferson County for 16 consecutive years, 1972 to 1987.
He was a member of the Thomas Hinds Masonic Lodge No. 58 as a master Mason. He later was of the Franklin County Lodge. Also, he was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of the Methodist Church, both at Community Methodist Church and United Methodist Church, both of Fayette.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth Taylor; and one sister, Mary Piper.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Mary Katherine Taylor; two daughters, Ruby May Taylor of Euless, Texas and Mary Katherine Milone and husband, Michael, of Clinton; and a number of nieces, nephews and extended families and a number of friends.
Pallbearers will be Robert Wilson, Michael Milone, Burt Anders, Clifton McCarstle, Virgil Scott and Ricky Carnegie.
