“Miss Bessie” was born in Natchez and attended nursing school in Jackson where she met the love of her life, Bob Chandler. Bessie and Bob shared a faith and love of our Lord Jesus Christ all of their years together. Bessie brought love, caring and hope to all she met through her nursing career, church work and everyday life interactions. She fought what she described as “a winning battle” with cancer for the past four years with a smile.

Bessie’s life was an example of how love can overcome all difficulties of life. She resides now with our Lord in heaven having traveled both joyous and troubled roads in life, always with a love for others and Jesus Christ.

Bessie and Bob have spent their married life in Demopolis, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa and Moundville, Ala. Bessie was a registered nurse at Dr. Ketchum’s office in Demopolis, the Moundville Nursing Home, Home Health Services and retired from DCH Regional Medical Center.

Bessie and Bob have helped start a number of new churches, the latest being Crestline Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa. Bessie was an active member and Sunday school teacher at Crestline.
