LIBERTY — Daniel Guedon and Christopher Perry each scored two touchdowns and Zack Day had an unbelievable performance from his safety position as Adams County Christian defeated Amite School Center 31-0 Friday night.
In what was perhaps expected to be a closer game in this battle of opposing Rebels, the visitors from Natchez scored all of their points in the first half as ACCS improved to 3-0 on the season.
“I was very proud. We made some mistakes early with not following our blocks. The defense was able to hold and the offense got going,” ACCS head coach Paul Hayles said. “Hopefully we’ll be able to continue to do those things.”
Guedon scored both of his touchdowns in the second quarter, first on an 80-yard pass from Johnny Smith and then on a 58-yard punt return which gave ACCS a commanding 25-0 lead.
Sanders didn’t have as many carries in this game as he had the previous two games. And even though the host Rebels did a good job of containing him for the most part, he still broke loose on a 76-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter for a 13-0 ACCS lead.
“Smith was much smoother. He did a good job of ball handling,” Hayles said. “Brandon did a superb job running the ball. Daniel Guedon had a breakout game.”
ACCS finished with 343 yards of total offense and, just as importantly, no turnovers.
Even though Perry had just four carries for 11 yards, he had ACCS’ first touchdown on a 3-yard run in the first quarter and its last one on a 2-yard run late in the second quarter.
Day also had a breakout game.
He finished with 20 unassisted tackles, six assists, two pass deflections and one forced fumble.
Hayles added that Day had a hit late in the game that was so hard, it had the fans attending oohing it.
“Zack Day was off the charts on defense. From start to finish, he was everywhere,” Hayles said.
Triston Beach had six solo tackles, two assists, one quarterback sack and two forced fumbles while Alvion Sampson added a 33-yard fumble return.
ACCS travels to Woodville to take on WCCA next Friday with a 7 p.m. kickoff.
