ACCS coming together in preparation for Prairie View

NATCHEZ — It only took Adams County Christian fullback Christopher Perry six plays to amass 115 yards last Friday against Wilkinson County Christian.
But Perry was quick to credit his teammates for his performance in that game, instead of going into what was working for him personally.
“You can’t do it by yourself. You have to have your line blocking for you. Without them, you don’t get any yards,” Perry said.
And Perry said the team concept is something the Rebel players have started buying into even more this week as they prepare to host Prairie View Academy this Friday.
“We’ve had some intense practices, and we finally pulled together. We’ve realized just how important one person is to the team. You lose one person, you lose a lot to the team. If one player gets a penalty, it affects the whole team,” Perry said.
But these Rebels have each other’s backs no matter what, Perry said.
“We have a good quarterback in Johnny Smith who’s stepped in and done a good job. If we back him up, he’ll back us up,” he said.
“With all that we have and everything that’s happened, we’d go as hard as we can to compete with anyone around. Our line has had its ups and downs, but we encourage them and don’t get on them or make them feel down.”
When the Rebels (4-0) take on the Spartans out of Bastrop, La., ACCS head coach Paul Hayles said the intensity his players have shown in practice would have to carry over onto the field.
“They’re a physical ball club, and they like to come in hard nosed and run the ball,” Hayles said.
“After a few tough loses, they’ve really caught on. They’re doing well both on offense and on defense right now. When you play a team hitting their stride, you have to make sure your team matches their good play.”
Complimenting Prairie View’s strong running game is a very formidable passing attack, Hayles said.
“When you look at the overall picture, this is possibly the most balanced team we’ve seen so far this season,” Hayles said.
“CENLA had the potential to run and pass, and they scored 50 on us, be we were able to counter that. If we can stop the run, that will be a big advantage for us.”
Making sure his players on defense keep their heads in the game will also be a big key for the Rebels Friday, Hayles said.
“We have to play fundamental football, and know our assignments and what schemes we’re in,” he said.
Kickoff at ACCS will be a 7 Friday night.
