VIDALIA — The City of Vidalia received bids for the new municipal complex on Thursday afternoon from five different contractors, and Clark Construction Co., Inc. from McComb looks to be the winner.
Clark Construction’s bid was the lowest at $5,798,000, and City Manager Ken Walker said the company will just have to meet the correct standards to receive the job.
“We start with the lowest bidder,” Walker said. “If they meet the correct specifications we will go with them.”
Bids ranged from $5.79 million to $7.42 million, and Vidalia Mayor Hyram Copeland said he wants to thank everyone that submitted a bid for the new complex.
“We are looking forward to working with Clark after their bid is reviewed,” he said. “I think we got an excellent bid for the project.”
If Clark passes the test, Copeland said the construction of the new complex that will house the new city hall, police station and fire station should start in the near future.
“We are looking forward to starting construction in the latter part of October,” Copeland said.
Out of the five bids, none were from area contractors, and Copeland said he did not know why there weren’t any.
“We were anticipating local participation on this,” he said. “But they must have had other projects they were working on.”
Copeland said the city should know whether or not Clark meets the standards in one to two weeks.
“We have to give the engineers a chance to go over everything they submitted,” he said. “If they do we can award the bid and get started.”
