HARRISONBURG — A teenager was killed late Wednesday night when the vehicle in which he was riding collided with a tree.

Louisiana State Police responded to the crash on Brown Road at 11:50 p.m.

Corbin L. Carpenter, 19, of Jonesville, a passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead.

Brandon J. Smart, 18, of Harrisonburg was driving the 2004 Chevrolet pickup, headed west.

He reportedly lost control of the vehicle and exited the left side of the road, where the vehicle traveled through a ditch and into a tree.

Smart received moderate injuries, according to a State Police report, and was transported to LaSalle General for treatment.

Alcohol use is a suspected factor, the press release said. Routine toxicology tests and charges are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
