FERRIDAY — Services for Vera Drane Davis, 88, of Ferriday, who died Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, at her residence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Ferriday with the Rev. Wayne Gray officiating.
Burial will follow at the Natchez City Cemetery under the direction of Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Mrs. Davis was born March 14, 1922, in Wesson, the daughter of Ben L. Drane Sr. and Lema Foster Drane. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Ferriday, Ferriday Garden Club and Community Service Club. She was co-founder and co-owner of Doris’ Dress Shop in Ferriday. After her retirement in 1971, she became an avid tennis player.
Mrs. Davis loved her church, her family and her community with a passion.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters, Ruby Swayze, Doris Morris, Luzon Truly and Era Jones; two brothers, Era Jones and B.L. Drane; and one granddaughter, Virginia Kathryn Crow.
Survivors include her husband of 72 years, L.W. “Woodie” Davis; one daughter, Peggy Davis Crow and husband, Eddie, of Ferriday; two granddaughters, Natalie Schwager and husband, Dr. Keith Schwager, and Rebecca Herbst and husband, Mark, all of Baton Rouge; three great-granddaughters, Anna, Rose and Helen Schwager; one great-grandson, Jackson Herbst; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Allred, Johnny Blunschi, Ricky Blunschi, Harry Porter, Mark Herbst and Dr. Keith Schwager.
