OXFORD (AP) — The choices for a new on-field mascot to replace Colonel Rebel at the University of Mississippi have been whittled down to three.
On Oct. 6, the mascot committee will release a poll including artists’ depictions of the Rebel Bear, Rebel Land Shark and Hotty Toddy.
The old mascot, a caricature of an Old South gentleman, was retired from the sidelines in 2003, and its licensing as a university trademark ended this summer.
Alumni, students, faculty, staff and season ticket-holders will be asked for their opinions on the concepts. The poll website will be www.mascot.olemiss.edu.
The mascot selection committee eliminated Rebel Lion and Rebel Stallion.
