FAYETTE — Kiwaski Tenner had 10 carries for 100 yards and two touchdowns and Robert Wells ran a punt 90 yards for a touchdown as Jefferson County got past Amite County 28-18 Friday night at homecoming.

Tenner scored on a 1-yard run with 6:50 to go in the first quarter to give Jefferson County a 6-0 lead. Amite County answered on a 1-yard touchdown run by Kenneth Weathersby nearly midway through the second quarter. However, the extra point was no good and the score was 6-6.

But on the ensuing kickoff, Wells took the ball at the 10-yard line and ran past any and all would-be tacklers on his way to a 90-yard touchdown return. Tenner connected with Frank Harris on the 2-point conversion pass for a 14-6 Tigers lead.

Tenner then scored on a 1-yard run with 2:55 to go until halftime to give Jefferson County a 20-6 lead. Amite County tried to get back in the game after Weathersby threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Damon Anderson early in the third quarter.

But Jeremy Parker gave the Tigers a commanding 28-12 lead on his 13-yard touchdown run. Tenner threw to Bouvier Ellis on the 2-point conversion run.

Farrell Robinson scored on a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter, but it was too little too late for Amite County, which fell to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in Region 7-3A.

Jefferson County improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in region play. The Tigers travel to Woodville next Friday when they take on Wilkinson County at 7 p.m.

Block 33, Mangham 14

MANGHAM, La. — Don’t tell the Block Bears that they’re not supposed to beat teams from higher classifications. With the exception of Class 4A powerhouse Bastrop, they don’t want to hear it.

They’ve already defeated two Class 3A teams – Vidalia and Jena – and Class 2A Ferriday. Now add another Class 2A team as Block took care of the then-undefeated Mangham Dragons from Class 2A Friday night.

Block improved to 4-1 overall and begins the LHSAA District 3-1A portion of its schedule next Friday at 7 p.m. when it plays at Northwood-Lena.
