Ferriday — Ferriday Mayor Glen McGlothin is recovering from surgery and doing well as can be expected, girlfriend Elzabeth Atkins said.

McGlothin was diagnosed with colon cancer in late September and had surgery to remove the cancer Monday.

Atkins said everything went great and that the surgery was a success.

“He is going to be in the ICU for a couple of days,” she said. “But this is just so he can get some rest.”

Atkins said McGlothin should be back in Ferriday Friday.

“The first thing he asked about after the surgery was what is going on at Town Hall,” she said.

Atkins said that she and the mayor have been overwhelmed with support.

“We appreciate everyone calling and dropping by to see how he is doing,” she said. “We are just asking for some privacy so he can rest up and get back to work.”
