NATCHEZ — Metro Narcotics Unit officers and Adams County Sheriff’s deputies picked up a couple of major drug distributors at the Jr. Food Mart Monday night, the sheriff said.

At approximately 9 p.m. the officers arrested two men who Adams County Sheriff Chuck Mayfield said are dealers the department has had its eye on for nearly a year.

Anthony Raimon Givens, 27, 212 Broadmoor Drive, and Travarious Cartell Johnson, 25, 5 Cottonwood Drive, were arrested after warrants were issued for sale of drugs in a school zone.

Mayfield said undercover informants were used to prove the men sold drugs.

Givens was charged with acting in concert to sell powder cocaine in a school zone, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, felony possession of promethazine with codeine and bringing contraband into a correctional facility.

Johnson was charged with acting in concert to sell cocaine, acting in concert to possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute and felony possession of promethazine with codeine.

Givens, who is nicknamed “Chin,” has been on the Metro Narcotics unit’s radar as far back as December, Mayfield said.

“(Givens) is not a street dealer, he is a wholesaler,” Mayfield said.

Givens allegedly sells drugs to dealers who then sell them on the street, Mayfield said.

Givens and Johnson were together in a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix with rims in the convenience store parking lot on Martin Luther King Jr. Street and Lynda Lee Drive, Metro Narcotics Commander David Lindsey said.

Officers impounded the car and seized $1,867 cash from Johnson and $1,281 cash from Givens.

Givens claimed to be a student at Alcorn State University, and Johnson claimed to work offshore, Mayfield said.

Givens received the charge for entering contraband in a correctional facility during the booking process at the Adams County jail.

Mayfield said when officers performed a standard body search on Givens, they discovered a stash of powder cocaine.

Givens and Johnson received bonds at their arraignment Monday night of $16,000 each.
