MENDENHALL (AP) — Officials in Mendenhall have fired Police Chief Bruce Barlow, several days after he was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.
The Magee Courier and Simpson County News report Barlow was fired Monday.
WLBT-TV reported that Simpson County Justice Court records showed Barlow was arrested last Wednesday after being accused of making obscene gestures toward a man and the man’s family. Barlow was released on bond, and a Nov. 9 court date was set.
Before the arrest, Barlow was already on leave as the police department was investigated by state and federal agents for alleged missing money and equipment.
After Barlow was fired, Mayor Randall Neely said officials regret the city “has been placed in a negative light” because of questions about the police department.
